The thing that interested me most in the book (and the film) is the gradual refinement of the language to the stage where it would become impossible to express forbidden thoughts/ideas because the words required to do so would not exist.

Who knows how much longer we will have the freedom we currently have with the internet? With that in mind, I urge all people to watch the five-part documentary "Evidence of Revision." It's about 8 hours long, but it is well worth watching. It reveals a great deal about the JFK and RFK assassinations, MKUltra, and more. Please watch it!

I'm pleased I read the book (long) before I saw the film. The film is in my opinion a masterpiece, but I don't like it when I can't read one of my favourite books without involuntarily playing a film in my head. I'd read Nineteen Eighty-Four early enough and often enough for it to have a life of its own in my imagination separate from the film.

As for the film, there are many things that could be said about it but I will limit it to this: great actors make great films. This cast is perfect (although part of me would have like to see Ian Holm as O'Brien), and the exact same film made with lesser actors would not have had one tenth of the value.
