Oh my. Will's accent is not like any Nigerian accent I've ever heard, and I should know since two particular Nigerians have been yelling at me since birth.
I can tell you how the NFL will combat it. By using it's athletes to go on camera and say things like "it's my decision to suit up. If I suffer brain damage well that's on me". andfans will nod in approval, stuff pizza and beer in their stomach and root for their teams to knock the hell out of the other team.
As a white lady with most likely no black friends, let alone somebody from Nigeria, I'm not surprised you think he's doing a great accent. In essence, what he's done is a crappy version of a Kenyan accent which all American movies seem to have if it has something remotely African in it. But here's the thing: the guy was born in Nigeria. The accent is awful, and that may turn of some people. All throughout the trailer I was thinking "My people don't sound like that." It'll be worse in a feature-length film. I'll be looking out for it, but a negative first impression goes a long way…
I'm African and i know his accent is way off. The only reason it'll work is because Will Smith is bankable and is so likeable. Still think they should have gone with maybe Chiwetel Ejiofor, Djimon Hounsou, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje or Idris Elba in this role.
I'm reading online that Nigerian- Americans think his accent is terrible and oft-putting. I think Will Smith will get butts in the seats
a trailer for a movie that doesn't give everything away. That's refreshing
Lets not forget Antonio Méndez. The MEXICAN who was behind the whole Argo plan to rescue the hostages but no, who gets to play him? Ben Affleck
I'm Nigerian and those accents are a definite no for me
It's gonna be a bad day for the NFL when American mothers wake up and suddenly realize they can end this organization in a generation.

Will Smith as a Nigerian?
Idonbilivit.
Any Africans watching. Is this accent accurate?

anyone wondering the Accent, the Accent is Somali Accent East African Accent
Damn trailer look really good especially that ending
Accent aside, I think that we may see an 'Ali'/'Pursuit of Happiness' type performance from Will with this one
My first reaction: Smith nailed the South African accent. But the actual dude is Nigerian…
Alec Baldwin is an asshole in every role I have seen him in expect Still Alice.
