Never has a dirge been lovelier than this one. Baez has wonderful delivery. She can hold a note for ransom. She can kidnap a song and steal your heart too.
I have a much better understanding of this song, now that I have watched 'Civil War: Blood on the Battlefields', if the telling is even close to accurate. However, I still rejoice that the Massachusetts Union forces were able to help President A. Lincoln abolish slavery. I am, obviously, NOT happy about the tremendous loss of life, on both sides, of all those promising young men, but, I understand it. It was a great first step, but, in 2015, we STILL have racism and hatred. That, I do NOT understand. Joan, and other like her, did their part, but, now, it is up to us to continue the fight for complete equality for ALL. I agree with President Obama. We must not forget the Confederate flag, but, now, it belongs in a museum, not flaunted out in the streets as a means by which to incite violence. All those who are with me, give me an 'I'd'.
I don't know….. what you know about history of this song…..but, in this days song is ….more actually than ever…..its himna…for some folks in US ….story is dramatical, but…
Great chanter here, sings like an angel. I love the way Joan Baez doesn't realize she's not in front of a "Folkie" crowd. Chastises the crowd with "It's not that difficult" while not missing a beat. Real professional here.

Joan Baez, with just a guitar and her wonderful voice, could make marvelous songs! That's what I call "Talent".
How did Joan Baez do that without auto-tune or backup dancers…oh wait, she has musical talent and can sing!
