I'm a Christian and I'm straight but I am perfectly fine with Gay marriage, I don't think it's fair to deny a person of love just because they are not straight.

I think the court will go with the gay marriage ruling barring states from denying gays marriage licenses. The cons are in the minority on this one, and judging by his reactions it looks like Kennedy is gonna go with the liberal side.

Regardless, as an onion article pointed out, this case is merely a formality of whether to legalize gay marriage now versus later. Most voters either support gay marriage or just don't care, so don't worry guys and gals, if you wanna marry your bf or gf (respectively) it'll be nationwide very likely within your lifetime.

And their gonna at the LEAST rule on the second question that states must recognize marriages given in states where gay marriage is not legal. That's a plain application of the Full Faith and Credit clause, i'll be very surprised if they don't.

Don't know why Christians act like they invented marriage & have the right to define it. Marriage has been around a lot longer than they have.

I am an Agnostic! Crazy Muslims and Christians need to GROW UP! Who fucking cares who marries who? It is their life and you need to stay OUT of it! live your own life and believe in comedy books written by RETARDS in Palestine 3000 years ago that said the world is flat and Lot fucked his daughters……STUPID PEOPLE!

The humor of it all and why its hilarious is because of the seriousness of stupidity that is by far crazy…
Jon Stewart mocked the debate head on and made all point valid based on the stupidity come back shown in this clip…
Those who are offended by the humor obviously have left themselves open to be offended by their own stupidity…
    As Jon Stewart pointed out…
    humina, humina, humina…

My simple answer to a complex problem… I'm sure it won't be sufficient to some, but I'll do my best with taking aslittle as possiblefrom you.

The Supreme Court cannot 'define' 'marriage' because it is a religious ceremony and observance.
    – it can define 'civil union' as it is an observance of governance or social culture.
    – Therefore, the SCOTUS cannot force ANYONE to recognize another's 'marriage' as it is defined by there own theological beliefs. However, they can define what a civil union is based on US law. So, a marriage may be a marriage and not a (governmental recognized) civil union and a (governmental recognized) civil union may not be a 'marriage'.

The civil rights should be equal to all. If the government recognizes a Christian, Muslim, etc marriage as a union deserving of benefits, and they also recognize a homosexual union as equivalent, then they must receive equal benefit.

Understand marriage as a religious conviction and civil union as a governed observance and separate the need to observe the two as the same exact thing…. Because they are not.

Lastly, ABSOLUTELY… each state holds the right and privilege to observe these things as eachstate wishes.Thefederal government has no right to demand what statesobserve or do not. That is for me and my elected officials to debate about. The federal government should be at the state's wills, not the other way around.

Only about 15 percent of white Americans approved of blacks marrying whites in 1967. And you know what, they got over it.

Since Christians are the only ones denying legal equality based on gender preference because it does not fit with their beliefs! It is only fair those beliefs stand scrutiny! After all what have they got to be scared of, the truth?
So on the subject of 'election' or 'calvinism' or whatever other word your religion uses. Do you believe God is all knowing all powerful and transcends time and space? Or do you believe you have free will to determine your actions which will determine your ultimate salvation? You see you cannot have both because if God is all knowing and knows the future, that means he knew before he created you what you would do during your life and what your ultimate salvation would be and decided to create you anyway! That means there is absolutely nothing you can chose to do which would alter your slavation or condemnation, which God already knows as fact! So the free will you think you have is not free will to do anything, God already knows what your going to be doing, meaning you only have a delusion of free will! Or maybe you believe you do have free will to determine your destiny, in which case God does not know how the future unfolds. Now if God does not know the future it would be a pretty good bet none of his creations would know the future either, making all the bible for telling a load of bumpkin! So which is your belief, that your delusional or the Bible is full of bumpkin?
And it is these half baked beliefs you want to use to deny civil rights to people, you have to be joking! Go believe whatever you like but don't try imposing your crap on others or it will be shown for what it is!
Don't think for a moment this question is not important, as it is the question that divided the Catholic Church into other religions so you should treat it as a very serious question indeed!

I think gay marriage shouldn't even be a debate. However, I do think individual church's should have rights to deny marrying a couple if they go against their beliefs. Overall though the whole thing just seems silly, if consenting people who are in love want to get married, let them.

I'm Catholic and I really couldn't give two fucks…. marriage (in the US public system) is between two people because they want to be better off financially.
I'll give them that marriage certificate, just don't off asking to get married on in a church. Separation of Church and State. :P …. P.S. Protestants are the crazy ones…
