Um. I came to find this amazing show that people won't shut up about on the new Poldark videos because apparently this series will always be way better in every way. All I can say is WTF. I can't even watch, it's……awful. Sorry to everyone clinging to something that made them excited 40 years ago but, the acting, the staging, everything is not only dated but it's like some terrible 70 sitcom show. I was expecting amazing because the new version 'apparently' doesn't hold a candle to it. Think I will avoid listening to nostalgic people in future.

there was such great chemistry between ellis and rees. I loved Demelza's character. Both were excellent actors. I am looking forward to remake but Aidan turner has big shoes to fill. Robin Ellis was brilliant as Poldark.

To all the people saying this is bad -recognize that this series was acted like a play and the new one is like a film. Both adaptation have qualities.

In the original theatre/TV adaptation- I liked watching to see the adventure of the week episodes and the mischief was of characters was shown well in theatre acting such as the scenes with Captain Blamey, Aunt Agatha and Demelza.Warleggon was really the villian in the show you would boo and hiss at. In the latest adaptation you would expect that we would explore why Warleggon acts the way he does to keep up with modern film trend of making the villian relatable.

The new filmlike adaptation was able to focus in on the main characters as real people but the disadvantage to this is the side plots like the Mark Daniel storyline seem a bit pointless as they don't really relate much to Demelza and Ross. However in more episodic stage type TV little mini story-lines like this slot well into the show.

I remember watching this as a kid in the early 90's and even back then I thought it was so dated! It looks positively ancient now. I'd love to watch it all again though. I hope the remake is decent.

Eleanor Tomlinson is a more convincing Demelza – Angharad Rees sounds uncertain in the accent, too well spoken and stagey. Aidan Turner is much sexier than Ellis.

Very interesting to see the original version for comparison. How the acting style, direction and camera work has changed ! I'm sold on the new version mainly because of the eye candy of the actor playing the new Poldark ;)

hehehe How can the 18th century look dated? Whether made in the 1970s or the 2010s, it's still set in that time. I like the new version with it's widescreen HD and camera shots, but the 70s version is the best for me. Just a personal opinion…

This was excellent acting. Really, they are going to have to go some with the remake to better this! There will of course be more graphic sex ,nudity and reality but what was so clever about Poldark was that the strength lay in what wasn't said. When Ross gallops through the night to be with Elizabeth, breaks into her bedroom and just stands staring at her. We didn't need to see, We Knew!! Still looking forward to the remake though!

Strangely enough………..Demelza suddenly grows up and gives the performance of her life…………though I loved Poldark and all the actors who had the pleasure of being in it………….Demelza became far too cleaver and proud………….while Elizabeth became too brittle………..if that's possible!
