I don't think it's fair to simply say that Dominicans are just African-descendants. We have just as much European ancestry as we do African( in the Cibao region anyway)

Dominicans are lost in denial of their black roots. All Dominicans are racist towards themselves. I've seen some biracial people who looks like a straight up white person but they never deny the fact that they have black in them. Atleast the biracials who are both mix with black and white doesn't deny their black side but when it comes to Dominicans, I've seen some who are dark as midnight and still has the nerve to call themselves white. HAHAHAH Dominicans are stupid as fuck, poor Hatians i could only imagine the shit they go through. Dominca is a fucking white washed, spanish washed nation where black people see themselves as white. WAKE THE FUCK UP. You aint white

    HERE'S THE TRUE STORY;

The island was once a single establishment.

Whites killed 90% of natives mostly by diseases; just like most of The Americas.

African slaves were brought in to replace them.

The island eventually became split into two by france and Spain.

Hati had many slaves because their resources were very abundant. (Deforestation now a big problem )

The DR had a huge influx of European immigrants. To whiten the country.

Dominicans are mixed and so are hatians to a degree.

But Dominicans are still BLACK by World standards.

But actually Dominican is a nationality same as Hati. They don't dictate race but nation of origin.

Dominicans, Brazilian, Cubans, Puerto ricans, and African Americans

Have the exact same genetics….. a mix that varies .

Most have little native blood because of mass extinction, with majority being European and African ancestry.

But unlike those Spanish speaking counties who always have much love for Spain (I don't know why they lick the hand that beats them)
The African Americans self identify with black because historically the one drop rule and a with us or against us attitude.

African Americans have something unique and that's an ethnic pride in being black. Which they had before any black peoples in the Diasporas. Besides hati they had it after the revolution, afterwards they killed all mix breeds. Who weren't black enough, or claimed white.

Unlike Latin America the U.S has had a large number of great influential leaders and a rich black history.

Negros in other places are ashamed of their African roots and try and hide it often.

Those countries had the same racial attitude without the pride installed that African Americans have had.

There was a book written by a Puerto rican negro about black grandma in the closet.

One thing all of Latin America have in common is the culture the African slaves brought through music.

Seems disrespectful to dispute the ancestry and then love the music they brought.

As an Afro-american (Black Man), I acknowledge that Dominicans are mixed and have mostly European ancestry. However they have a significant portion of African ancestry (35%), in fact most of them (70%) have bloodlines that go back to African women. They should embrace their African roots and see the Haitians as brothers and realize that even though they might claim Spain, Spain ain't claiming them!! #Facts

Hmmmmm In the US they have the one drop rule which says if you are even a little black then you are black, but in the Dominican Republic it seems to be the opposite. Should both rules be accepted or should they both go?

Dominicans can claim to be whatever they want in their country, but don't try talking that shit in Mississippi.
Saw a pic' of a few of them wearing KKK hoods. Let them try to get KKK membership. A noose will be waiting for them.
    You disgrace your ancestors.

Haiti didn't just fight the french but fought the Spanish and the British as well. And after achieving independence Haiti's President Petion gave soldiers, weapons, ships, and printing Presses to Simon Bolivar to liberate South America from slavery.

Although there are traces of Taino blood in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, most Haitians love and are proud to be black. Haiti is the #1 country in the Western Hemisphere who has retained the most culture from Africa.

    Dominicans are
    73-% Mix Tri-racial
    16-% White
    11-% Black

According to DNA-Tribe the average Mix Dominican is estimated to be
    59 % Spanish European
    35 % Afro
    6 % Native American

According to Plos Genetic the average Mix Dominican is
    57 % Spanish European
    38 % Afro
    5% Native American

According to this "documentary" full of fallacy, lies, half true Dominicans have been sharing the island with Haitians for 500 years… FALSE Haitians were brought by the French around 250 years ago when they fought against Spain & took Half Island, while Dominicans started becoming a society 500 years ago. Mr Gate started his so called "documentary" with a BIG LIE, imagine what other lies he said throw out this "crapmentary".

According to "History of the Caribbean" history book Pg. 45, writen by "Franklin W. Knight" an African-American (who is a Very Recognized Great Historian of the Caribbean slavery, Google his name) inform that by 1750 Santo Domingo(Dominicans) was
    38,000 Whites
    30,000 Mixes/Free-blacks
    15,000 Slaves.

Also in the late 1790's Dominicans grow to 125,000 which 50% White, 30% Mixes & 20% Slaves. Slaves in the D.R. almost didnt passed the 20% of the population. In other words, Dominicans were slave owners. In fact when Spain abandoned the island in 1821, in which we have our First Independence, Dominicans did not free the 20% slaves, it wasnt until Haiti show up in Santo Domingo in 1822 with 40,000 army, some weeks after Spain abandoned the island because Spain was becoming weak and also Santo Domingo(D.R.) wasnt a important strategy place. Haiti attacked us & occupied us for 22 years from 1822 until 1844… where they massacre thousands of Dominicans, specially the Whites & light Mixes ones (something Henry Gate deliberately did not included in this documentary) & many Dominicans flee to Cuba & Puerto Rico. ((When Puerto Rican governments heard this, they begging to mass import Europeans to their island to deterrence Haiti from Invading PR too))
While Haiti implement the policy of darkening the country by mass importanting free slaves from the Caribbeans islands and even Free Slave African Americans who were settled in Samana(most later immigrated back to the US).

Haiti impose heavy taxes to pay their big debt to France. Santiago ctiy was burned to the ground killing many of it residents, also in Moca where Haitians killed many women & children. Haiti forbid us from speaking Spanish, practicing Christianity, studying & also closed our University.

After Haiti mistreat the mixes/white Dominicans including the black ones who they already free in the beginning of the occupation… Then Dominicans of all races & colors become united & fought against the Haitians, in other words, even our black Dominicans fought against the Haitian army. A good example is our black general Gregorio Luperon who lead many battles against the Haitians.
We become independent from the Haitian occupation in 1844 however Haitians did give up their claim of the entire island, they continued attacking & invading the DR many times until 1857 when the United States forced & put pressure on the Haitians to STOP invading & attacking the Dominican Side of the island.

This documentary is subjective as hell. It's obviously trying to give Dominicans a bad name stating "most Dominicans are black, but they deny or don't realize it." This is completely false. Most Dominicans are mulattoes, which means descendent from white (Spanish) and black (African) people. Correct? Then that means most Dominicans aren't black. Simple as that. They aren't white either, they are mixed: mulattoes. But if Dominicans are more proud of their Spanish ancestors, does that make them in denial? Of course not. The problem of the world outside Latin America is that people are influenced by the USA. In the USA if you're a mulatto, you're black. The famous "one drup rule". Like being white is something so pure, you need to be 100% white and only then you have the right to call yourself white. But if you have at least a little bit of blackness in you… BAM! You're black. That's why Obama, being 50% black and 50% white, (mulatto) is considered black. Do you seriously think Dominicans like Romeo Santos, Prince Royce en Juan Luis Guerra are all black? Or Fernandito Villalona? Alex Bueno? Zacarias Ferreira? I'm a perfect example of the mix in the Dominican Republic. I'm not black, but I would be considered black in the USA. However, my mother is almost white, because her whole family descents from Spanish and partially Portugese people. So that makes my mother white or "Latina" and me black? Yeah, right! The problem of the world towards the term "Latino" is that the USA made this genius image of the term "Latino": A Latino must look white, with a little bit of beautiful darkness. Like Italians or Spaniards. Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Shakira… That's what people think of a Latino. I already quitted taking this Documentary serious when I saw they were interviewing a Haitian with clearly Haitian accent as "a black Dominican".

I wonder if this video has something to do with the US and European Union and their campaign to unify the island at the expense of defaming the Dominican Republic and its people.

Why don't you mention on your video that the Dominican people where the first
to go to Haiti's aid after the earthquake or the hundreds of donation campaigns that we started so that we could send to Haiti or the thousands of Dominican volunteers that, on a seconds notice, left their homes and jobs so that they could help Haiti in any way possible.

Also why don't you mention the hundreds of Haitian ladies giving birth on our public hospitals at the expense of the Dominican people and Government; or the thousands of Haitian men, women and children receiving free medical care on those same hospitals.

So now Haiti's history is noble and rich and their founding fathers are praised while our's are being judged because we liberated our county from the Haitian oppression, come on.

Before passing judgement on the Dominican Republic please try reading some history so you can better understand what you are talking about and perhaps create a video that is a little less biased.

The situation between Haiti and the Dominican Republic has nothing to do with being black or white, the reality is that there is a marked interest by a few countries to unify the island but unfortunately both countries have totally different cultures, different languages, different religions and different values plus add to that a past history that is full of turmoil, including 22 years of domination by the Haitians.

Perhaps while you spoke about Trujillo's massacre, which by all means I don't condone, you should have also mentioned the massacre done by the Haitians when they tried to invade the city of Santo Domingo and where not able to penetrate the defenses, out of anger they marched to the city of Moca and put most of the townsmen inside a church and the proceeded to burn down the building with all of them still inside; the few men who where not burned at the church where assassinated by the Haitians before they left the town. All the woman and childrenwhere chained and taken as prisoners but on their way back to Haiti, they where raped and had their throats cut by the Haitians, so almost none of them never reached Haiti. In Dominican history this is known as the "Deguello de Moca".

If the US wants us to unify the island, maybe the US should set an example and tear down their border with mexico and lead by example. Heck, I even remember that not long ago you couldn't even receive medical care at a public hospital if you where an illegal allien in the US while in this country we give medical care every day to illegal people from Haiti, and you guys are passing judgement on us?

We have no problems with Haiti and you can be sure that we, the Dominican People, will always give our support to our neighbors in times of need, but you can also be sure that we, the Dominican people, will never accept the unification of the island nor will we accept an invasion from Haiti, no matter what countries are backing it, and that we will defend our country no matter at what cost.

Hilarious how Dominicans are looking to White people as their GODS!! LOL!! Egyptians in the South of Egypt (just as black) don't do this. Egyptians are PROUD of their ancient culture. Dominicans (on the other hand) have lost touch with their culture, and have adapted the oppressor's culture as their own (including Catholicism). Pretty simple to me….

Hmmm These comments from Black Americans and Dominicans are quite sad. I thought i'd share my opinion since i'm African American with a Dominican father. First off there are “Black Dominicans” However most Dominicans are mixed and clearly look it. People tend to judge your race based on your skin color. Which I’ll use the zambo and mestizo people as an example. Mestizos are half European, half indio, zambos are half indio and African. With mestizos, even with their European mixture, mestizos can look very brown and indio. Now imagine if you replace that European mix with African. The offspring is going to come out looking pretty black. If you saw a zambo you would automatically assume they’re “black.” The only thing that might be a giveaway is their hair and features. Some however can have kinky hair and straight African features. With that said, Dominicans are clearly not all black. Even the brownest Dominican looks mixed. Now if they choose to identify as black(like my father) then that’s their right. Most Dominicans don’t necessarily identify as one race. African Americans tend to use the one drop rule even amongst ourselves. We think that by calling a mixed person black, we’re embracing our African side. No, you’re only continuing the white man’s one drop rule. No offense to any white people btw. Black is not a race either. It is a skin color. I guarantee you if you look up how race is classified you would be quite surprised at the double standards. Some of you might call me a female Uncle Tom, but who cares. I’ve also been called Afrocentric and I’m sure if you saw my comments around youtube concerning African history you might agree. Yes there are black Dominicans, but most of them are mixed. Not everyone believes in the one drop rule.
