Man, I got into Yes because of Tales from Topographic Oceans. I do not find it boring at all! My favorite Yes album is Relayer though. The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, and Drama are all amazing too, but Tormato is awful.

Thanks Dereck nice tribute – was blown away by Close to the Edge as a 10 year old in 1977 and have followed ever since

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and collection of Yes and Chris Squire! He has always been one of my favorites and when I talk to people about great bass players, I make sure to bring him up along with the likes of Getty Lee and Les Claypool and Flea. Most people I talk to about this don't even know who Yes is, so i love keeping his legacy alive with conversation. He will be missed by those in the know!

A lovely video. I will always remember when I heard Roundabout for the first time, made me a life-long Yes fan and always loved his bass playing and vocals. He will be missed

Sad to see that one of my favorite bass players of all time is gone.
I was just telling a fellow VC member last night about seeing Yes for the first time for the Relayer Tour. Following that I saw them in 1977, 78, 79 and 1980. The last year being the Drama Tour without Jon. The Buggles singer Trevor Horn was singing and also Geoff Downes was in the band. Not a great last tour to see them but I did see my favorite of all which was the Going For The One tour.
I can add that watching Chris Squire was fantastic each and every show. He was a master on the bass and he was also a great backup vocalist.
Such a nice tribute hear Dereck. You know I did not know that he passed on until I saw the title of your post. Even then I had to Google it and sure enough that proved it. Since you are a bass player too I thought you may have been just doing an appreciation video. But anyways, we still can listen to his playing and enjoy the music for years to come~

I am devastated. R.I.P. Chris Squire, one of my favorite bassists ever.
Yes are my 2nd favorite prog rock band ever only after Genesis, so this cuts deep.

I feel the same about music, it's really 1st for me. Great tribute to him. Yes, we've lost many great and distinctive artists this year. Have gotten further into Daevid Allen here too. Sounds like he as well as the others really created their own little musical universes to inhabit. Thanks for sharing this. -Carm

Close To The Edge was my first exposure, which I played a lot. I was in hih school at the time in the 80s and my dad was a member of Columbia House. I had an older kid next door who turned me onto Yes and other bands. I showed him the Columbia House book, and he circled a bunch of stuff to order. After CTTE, I went back and got Fragile, 90125, Yesterdays, and Drama (which I wore out). Drama is a polarizing album among Yes fans, and I am on the side of really liking it. I was glad they did another album with Trevor Horn. BTW, Drama is the album which has the only song someone else plays bass besides Chris, 'Run Through The Light', bass by Trevor. Thanks for sharing Dereck.
