What people don't seem to understand is that tap water is just not appealing to most people. Not only is the taste of tap water inferior, but the filtration compared to other brands (like Smart Water) is just not even close to acceptable. The cost and waste are the only valid arguments against bottled water…and those being purely social issues amongst which the world has many of. If we made synthetic or natural biodegradable plastic, then the waste would be solved…then there's just regulating the price and that's essentially that.

Tap water is nice, but it's not suitable for most people. I for one cannot drink any water but Smart Water (sometimes Voss, Icelandic spring, and Fiji) as the the taste of all other brands and tap is just dirty compared to the clean and crisp taste of Smart Water.

I don't drink bottled water at home but I'm not sure what to do when I'm out. You can only refill a bottle a finite number of times and it depends on remembering it. Reusable bottles have a frustrating tenancy to leak and a strong plastic taste. Advice?

Hey, I figured out a great alternative to wasteful plastic bottles, too!

It's called a flippin' water fountain

Ha@ Lonebannana, you must live in a city! I haven't seen a water fountain in years… and never on the trail or in the woods! ;>)

In all seriousness, I have the thermos nissan backpack bottle that is pretty water tight when you snap the lid closed (I can put it in by bag and it will not spill). What I usually do is fill it up with coffee for the morning bus trip, finish it off around 10 am, then after lunch i fill it up with cold fountain water.

So I can dig the permanent bottle.

Actually, it's called a permanent bottle. You know, the kind you buy empty and fill with whatever product you desire? Well, that, plus water fountains.

I think that you are wrong, and without citations I can't look up your claims. When I google your claims about 1/3 of them seem to be false. This makes it hard for me to believe anything in this video. If you are interested in changing the minds of people like me (the empirically inclined), you should give citations.

A Colorado entrepreneur has come up with a green alternative to wasteful plastic bottles called EcoJarz. Google them!

Yea Water Filters are so much cheaper. If you don't have one on your frig, definitely get one. I wouldn't recommend the faucet one's though. They have a hard time staying mounted from my experience. Haven't tried Brita's but PUR's I have.

They even have a Brita Waterbottle. Just pour your tap in the bottle and it will filter as you drink. Simple.
