First off, I do think Smith should have been ejected. And I also am sorry Crowder got hurt. But put yourself in Smith's place. Starting a few seconds before the foul,.. 1) Crowder runs from the top of the key and blindsides Smith.. 2) Smith stands his ground 3) Crowder continues hitting Smith from the back.
I'd say it was instigated by Crowder's over-agressive behavior. And while Smith's reaction did not seem particularly violent, but expulsion-worthy. You just cannot swing away wildly.
That said, the refs in this game really sucked. They let Olynick (sp?) dislocate Love's arm, and skate Scott-free. And let Perkins wind up and hit Crowder in the first half with a paltry two-shots.
Pitiful.I hope these refs don;t see any more post-season play this year.
