For what is worth, I don't think Stannis nor John are dead.
Think about it. If Game of Thrones has showed us something is that we ALWAYS get our revenge scene complete. If there's a revenge, we get to see the graphic dead to increase the shock. So why we didn't get to see Brianne kill Stannis? Food for thought
And John? Think about it too. Let's say Melissandre chicken shit and ran from Stannis. Why would she return to the wall? Why not looking for the Brotherhood and Thoros of Mir? Because she had something important to do on the wall. What is that? To bring John Snow from the dead. How can she do that? Well, she's a red priest. You know whom else is a red priest? Thoros of Mir. And what does he do better? Bring back Derrick Dondarion from the dead (remember when the Hound split him in half, and even then, Thoros bring him back?)

Between his link to Ghost, GRR's open interpretation of his death, and the Night King. The icing on the cake was that Melisandre had an interest in Jon, and returned to him after Stannis' army was massacred.
