Hello, I am seriously considering moving there as I now live on a fixed income. One of my concerns is that I do not, nor do I seem to have the talent to pick up on speaking Spainsh. In your opinion, will this be a big issue for daily living there? Also, I do have some health issues, so although I do not want or need to live in a busy city, I would like access to a place to live comparable to the conditions you describe you are living in. How much would the rent be for something like that, and what city should I do my search in? Oh, and one more thing: I get really freaked out by bugs. I know living in a tropical climate means there is going to be bugs, but can you suggest an area where the weather is on the cooler side, thus, less bugs?
I would really appreciate your input.

Idk. Probably the capital. And I want to live like a dominican.
I want to find a telemarketing job.
But people there live on 150-300 a month.
I'm just trying to leave the rat race.
Electricity and hot water going in and out is no problem.
I did Haiti for a little bit.

Hmm My parents have 2 homes down there. First home is in a small town and it has 24hr power and we have battery/generator backup. Second home is in the country side and doesn't get 24hr power but we have grid tied solar/wind power system. Pretty much 24hr power. Water is delivered once a week into our 40k gallon tank. It takes a few trucks to fill it. But we only go once a year and it takes months from caretakers using water to empty the wells. They are Villa style homes with A/C, gas water heaters and the property is gated/walled.

If I owned them I'd let you stay in em for a winter :P. It sounds like you are staying in less then 1st world equivalent conditions.

Network marketing What do you do? I'm very curious. Also as an American interested in moving there even temporarily what do you think is some of the best occupations an American can have to make a comfortable living there.

Hi Im looking at moving there and would love to make a life there if its possible.
Is there any way that you could maybe give me pointers so i
would know what to expect. Im a hard working guy that would like to maybe
find work. Im not looking for much as long as i can survive id be more then happy.
Looking at going to visit in April to give me a better idea of what i can make of it.
I need a drastic change in my life and if it works out id sell what i have here and then move a few months after.
Thanks for giving me an idea as to what to expect from there.

I visited there & the people are a warm & happy culture. Very traditional family values. It's what I love about it there. What do you do there for health coverage? So you go back and forth from there to the states? I'm also in network marketing and I'm a teacher.
