Shit, I totally forgot. Happy late Fathers day Pwn! I was out with my dad for the majority of the day and got to watch him get emotional when I gave him his gift. Was a Mauser P08 (Luger) that he's wanted for probably longer than I've been alive and one he's held and drooled over for months.
Best advice I can think up: Don't try to avoid the things your dad "failed" on, improve on being the dad you've always wanted. Much more potential and fun doing what you want to with your kids, rather than focusing on why your father failed you and how you're going to try to not be like that.
Nowadays, "time is money" and that's the worst part about being a father today with the tons of things that distract and take us fathers out of our children's lives. Fathers today would rather sit on their ass and play with their mobile devices/televisions/computers/consoles/social media with their kids there than actually doing something with the kids. Who can blame them? We work our asses off and the last thing we want to do is go to work on an activity they wouldn't really enjoy themselves. (raises hand on realizing there's things that can be done with the kids and for you to enjoy together)
