I don't agree on the "Ineligibility for the HOF" portion of it. Lifetime ban on what Rose did, maybe. I think there should be a rule on what he did, but mandated to where he is in the HOF. What he did, didn't affect his performance as a manager or on the field. At the very least he should be eligible for the HOF, but maybe restricted on what he can do for the MLB.

Saw an interview with Stan Musial and Al Kaline. Here is the old timers perspective as spoken by them. The 1919 Black Sox scandal put the Commissioner in place. He has the Ultimate power to do what he needs to do for the integrity of the game. Guess what these old timers said? In every clubhouse in the majors there was a sign that said "Do not bet on the game". That was the first thing you were told when you came up. He bet on the game, he got banned, he needs to stay banned.

The "integrity" of the sport is always the best line ….from a sport you couldn't play until you were any color than white until 70 years ago

unfair and unjust… and I cant stand hearing about how he compromised the integrity of a game filled with drug abusers, wife beaters andcheaters that all get 2nd chances…

Being banned from the game for almost 25 years wouldn't be enough of a deterrent? So a player who isn't gambling because the ban is for life is going to look at Pete Rose being granted clemency after a25 year banishment and think it's OK to bet on a game?

Steven A hit the nail on the head. I don't always agree with him but he's dead on this time. Skip, as usual, babble nonsense. What could possibly be worse than players roiding and breaking all time records? Nothing. These ass holes made a complete mockery of the rich history of baseball and the game still struggles because of it.

Baseball in 1919 is almost an entirely different sport to what it is today. It's played on a COMPLETELY different skill level, not to mention strategically different, so comparing what Rose did to the 1919 scandal doesn't mean anything.
