All eyes will be on Ichiro this year because he's very close to passing Pete's record in combined totals. Even if MLB doesn't honor his Japanese numbers, it will be an amazing sight to see just like this was 30 years ago.
Of course, some of you lived through the days when Henry Aaron blasted his 715th career homer to get past Babe Ruth's 714 homers. There is some affinity to that baseball milestone on April 10, 1974 and the video you saw as Pete Rose at Riverfront Stadium blasting a basehit (his 4,192nd) on September 16, 1985, that almost went for a ground-rule double–once I saw the ball go down to the astro-turf in left-center field, I knew Pete made history. I was 15 years old and in Chicago, IL when Rose made history. The affinity between these two events already mentioned was the loudest roar of the crowd, congratulations from the teammates, fireworks exploding above the stadium in celebration. (The Hank Aaron 715th homer had about 50 pieces of fireworks exploding; for Pete's 4192, I think about 200-300 pieces of fireworks went off.) Just before that trouble Pete Rose had from gambling, Pete Rose was the most-adored icon in Major League Baseball–almost as iconic as the great Reggie Jackson.
These were the greatest moments in baseball history along with Hank Aaron, Cal Ripken Jr. Nolan Ryan, Roger Maris and the Reds first beating Boston in the 1975 WS and then coming back and sweeping the Yankees in 4 games in the 1976 WS..
Pete Rose was good. Soon to be Hall of Famer Pete Rose. Everyone gambles. He never bet on the reds to lose. He didn't use PED's. Just greenies. Like everyone else. Could you imagine those older players on A-Rod level PED's. Real men that would drink beer until game time and go 4 for 4.
Eric Show (May 19, 1956 – March 16, 1994) Really, a heartbreaking story there.
he's now held the hits record for 30 years.unbreakable, like DiMaggio's 56 game hitting streak.
Eric Show sitting on the mound thinking to himself, "I've just become the answer to a trivia question!"
PUT THIS MAN IN THE FREAKIN HALL OF FAME ALREADY!!!!!!!

Never seen beer drinking in the broadcast booth. Lol
Pete's 44 game hitting streak was in 1978, not 1977.
