This sounds a lot like the live "in glass" album. The one where they are all in knights outfits in stained glass. Brings a tear to my eye. I miss this band so much.
There are many accounts that state the whole band was dosed (except Pig) for this performance. Just shows you how incredibly amazing this band is. I can't even tie my shoes on a single dose…much less play an entire show in front of a studio audience and on TV!!
I like Mickey but the band(and especially Billy) were SO much better without him. They had much more of a swing. Billy kicks major ass on the European gigs(even Phil said so). His playing is so expressive and is so fluid.
I LOVE Mickey, but for me, one of the best things about 1972 (my favorite year), is that you REALLY get to hear how amazing Bill is. Mickey was taking time off from the band in 1972…

Pig seems ok with it all….
What is this genre – somewhere between blue-grass/country/folk/country blues? Any other input? I have never made sense of the popularity of this band.
You can see from this video what perfectionists they were. A lot of hard work went into this music and is shows.
