Hey. West LA, Desolation Row, and Deal are from the 19th! Look, Bobby's shirt's different. So, every time you see Bobby wearing a Hawaiian shirt, it's the 19th
This was my first show ever…turned to my husband-to-be and said…this is the most fun I have ever had! Standing on the moon was crazy good…did the moon actually rise up from behind the stage as Jerry sang it… or was I high?
I went on the 19th. God, my priorities were screwed up that year. How could I NOT have gone the other two nights? I'll never forgive myself. But, who would have imagined, back in the 80's, that one day you could actually watch shows you were at (or tragically missed), within minutes? I certainly didn't know any video 'tapers' back then, so YouTube is a godsend. That year I also to Buffalo on the 4th of July; which is the DVD "Truckin' Up to Buffalo." That awesome show made up for a lot of the regret. Thank you!
still have this VHS from college… haven't watched it since '01 probably… my saturday nite… just one more along the way… Get in the Groove and let the GOOD times roll…
My brother and I were there all 3 days our only dry clothes were the new stuff we traded use of our gas grill for because it was the only thing that would light cause of the rain that never stopped, im 49yrs old and have seen G, D, all over but im from Wisconsin 20minutes from alpine, we had a sheet and a hole lot of tripping ass fun and I forgot who said this but there is no band anywhere that has the way back machine, effects all I have to do is close my eyes turn up the boys and off I go,, and its still the most beautiful music I've ever seen or heard, and brent died just after my birthday as well, I miss walking in herring them tuning up the doses finding there way , yep

Look at Bobby's big strong legs! He was doing a ton of mtn. biking in the late '80s. Alpine shows were the best! Who remembers '82 with the great "TLEO", one of the best ever, IMO;the cool jam between "Scarlet" and "Fire" and the sick "Satisfaction" encore. The '84 "Bird Song" & "Let It Grow" awesome "China>Rider" and of course maybe the best "Dear Mr. Fantasy" EVER; or '85 with the 2nd "Keep On Growing", the first night's "Row Jimmy in '86 is SO moving and the first set closer "Sampson" rocks like nobody's business. But '87, oh my'87! Jerry was back and the crowds with the Darkies were off the hook-people camped all over the golf course even! And the porta potties–oh my. If you were there you know what I'm talkin' about. The first night's "Deal," "China>Rider"and the WHOLE 2nd set, bizarre animal sounds coming out of "Eyes," the "Gimme Some Lovin'" outta Spaceand the "Watchtower" where Bobby just howls. I remember turning around during "Around and Around"during the "doors flew back" and seeing the most beautiful mass of writhing humanity I'd ever seen, NEVER saw as huge a crowd at Alpine before or since–people literally had their backjs against that huge wall at the rear- must have been 45,000 people packed in there.'87 was a very special stand at Alpine as was '88 but it was SO hot! 2 nights on, one off and then two more, almost but not quite too much. Remember driving back toDes Moines nearly catatonic, no AC and stopping at gas stations to soak ourselves down–record-breaking heat wave.By '89 I was in California so didn't make this stand, the last but must say every Summer for 7 years the trek to Alpine Valley defined my youth and were truly some of the best times of my life and I'll never forget them.
read Garcia said they'd add little bits from other musicians songs & see if the other guys would catch it..sounds like the Folsom Prison guitar lick around 29:30
I wish men were allowed to wear shorts like that these days…
