maria must learn how to hit high loopy spinning balls to serena's back and forehand in orderto control serena's power. maria must also practice how to receive fast balls by just blocking the balls from a guy serverone foot inside the baseline, if she's playing against serena.

I love Maria, but she frustrates the hell out of me. She just doesn't seem to learn that you can't beat Serena by standing on the baseline for the entire match. I lost count of how many deep returns Maria missed simply because of terrible positioning. Serena hitting a dropshot is a very rare occurrence, so why Maria thinks she needs to stand so close in is beyond me. If she moved back a little and took the ball earlier, she would at least be thrashed less humiliatingly. She ought to hire Heather Watson as her coach

I love the fact that there is people in the comments who have never played a pro tennis player in their lives telling Maria what she must do. Serena is a true champion that is not just about skill its about keeping something in your tank even when the chips are down you can find it when others cant. The problem is you cant teach that to someone you have it or you dont. Serena can be beaten by Maria because she has done it and yes it was 10 years ago but as my mum always says every dog has his day (and no i am not saying Serena is a dog) every play can be beat and just by the law of try try again Maria will do it.

Serena is simply amazing! Martina was lucky not to be in the same generation as Serena. Coz i think Serena is just too powerful and too much even for someone like her. Go win the finals Serena! GOODLUCK and God bless!

Serena's obvious strength, skill, mental focus and power…undermines the myth meat is needed for strength, she is vegan, like many pro athletes. They both have their own strengths, I ultimately think Shaparova came into the game with less self-confidence and self-esteem, she thinks she is likely to lose, rather than truly believing in herself. Self-esteem, healthy/well developed self-worth is I wish for everyone, to just like yourself for who you are. Serena Williams in interviews I have heard, sounds very secure with herself, no fear or doubt about herself, good for her.

Sharapova has an average serve, her movement coming forward and going from left to right is bad, and because she refuses to do squats because it would make her legs to big, she cannot slide, let alone hit the ball on the move, and her volleying on the rare occasions that she does volley is terrible, all she can do is hit from the middle back of the court, the fact that sharapova has made a grand slam career with hardly any weapons is a miracle, but also shows her unwillingness to change and try to improve things.

Sorry to be cruel but Maria just got the shit beaten out of her, this match was a laughing stock, and it was not the sort of semi final quality that was close like Heather Watson, that was far better quality, yes Serena played much better here but Maria was just getting steamrollered, out powered on serve and groundstrokes, at least she tried harder in the second set, or else she would have got a bagel- the ultimate humiliation!!
